Fat transfer to breast is a popular treatment that can be chosen to increase the volume of the breast, either independently for a small increase in size / volume, or alongside an implant for more dramatic results. Fat transfer to breast quite literally involves the extraction of fat from one area of the body (usually the abdomen or thighs) which is then transferred to the breast. Whilst this procedure is favourable for increases of up to one cup size, it is not a replacement for breast augmentation using implants where more than one cup size increase is desired.

Arm lift surgery involves the removal of sagging skin and localised fat deposits that hang down from the underside of the arm. This procedure will result in a tightened more toned appearance to the upper arm. It should be noted that the trade off to this is that there will be a scar left on the inner arm, although this will likely fade with time. During the brachioplasty procedure, incisions will be made along the arm, excess skin and fat deposits will be removed and the skin will be pulled taut and stitched. Depending on the technique used, an arm lift may involve incisions from the armpit a short way down the arm, or fully from the armpit to the elbow. The result will be a much improved aesthetic, and more toned shape.
At The REAL Clinic, brachioplasty is carried out under general anaesthetic. We use total intravenous anaesthesia as it has greater potential benefits compared to other forms of anaesthesia. Intravenous anaesthesia is more rapid in onset, and elimination which allows for speedier recovery. Further benefits include; increased haemodynamic stability (stabilised blood flow), decreased risk of organ toxicity, decrease in surgical haemostasis (bleeding), reduced risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting, and improved, more predictable recovery.
There is likely to be some swelling, bruising, tenderness and discomfort following the fat transfer to breast procedure, which can be managed with pain relief. Occasionally a patient may experience bleeding, fat necrosis, and breast asymmetry. There is also an association with benign calcifications which can interfere with the interpretation of mammograms.
You can typically allow between 2-3 weeks to recover from a fat transfer to breast procedure. It would be advisable if possible to rest during this period and refrain from any stress inducing activities including going to work and driving. You should not resume activities such as going to the gym or sports for around 6 weeks post surgery and steps toward increased activity levels should be taken slowly.
