SMALL BREASTS

SMALL BREASTS

Hypomastia is the term that describes small breasts post puberty. Whilst hypomastia is rarely a medical concern, many women feel insecure about their small breasts and may seek surgery to enhance the shape and size of the breast.

There is no exact measurement that determines hypomastia, although it is often determined by the social and personal anxiety that one can develop as a result of their small breasts. Small breasts can also lead to self consciousness, as well as intimacy issues when the woman’s confidence is deeply affected. People with small breasts will often seek to conceal the true size of the breast by wearing padding or gel inserts in their bra to give the impression of a fuller chest. However, this is not a permanent solution and can become quite uncomfortable if worn on a regular basis. Gel inserts in particular can cause sweating in the crease where the breast meets the chest, so personal hygiene in this area is very important so as not to cause any skin concerns.

Amastia is slightly different from Hypomastia. Amastia is a very rare condition whereby the breast does not develop at all, and is thought to be due to a failure in the development of the milk line. In this instance, breast implants can be the ideal solution to this problem, increasing volume and shaping of the breast.

'One of the most common concerns I hear from patients is about hooded upper eyelids, giving them an aged and tired appearance that is completely at odds with how they feel. The great news is that a blepharoplasty procedure on the eyelids can be hugely helpful at a relatively low cost and short recovery time.'
