FINE LINES & WRINKLES

FINE LINES & WRINKLES

Fine lines and wrinkles are usually the first signs of skin ageing and often appear as smile lines, frown lines, forehead lines, nose-to-mouth (nose-to-lip line), and lip lines.

Both genetics and lifestyle choices can determine how quickly this condition may develop, and many of us will start to develop wrinkles at around the age of 25 or 30.

Collagen and elastin are proteins that are found in the skin. As we age, these substances begin to decrease and the signs of which will penetrate the structure of your skin, causing loss of elasticity, fullness, and a youthful appearance.

These wrinkles become deeper and more extensive because the skin remains weakened over time. As the tissues and muscles under the skin form creases from repeated movements such as smiling, laughing, frowning, speaking and smoking, the skin will drape into the creases and settle which gives a deeper more set appearance to the line or wrinkle.

UV light will also have an effect if the skin is subject to excess exposure. UV rays break down collagen and elastin, and therefore areas exposed to the sun most often see the first fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear.
