Breasts develop at varying rates and to varying sizes. The average woman’s breasts will have matured by their late teens. However, there may be a number of reasons breasts will continue to grow beyond this time, such as; hormone imbalances, weight fluctuations / gain and pregnancy.
Where a breast has overdeveloped this is medically described as breast hypertrophy – meaning the breast is excessively large, and often very heavy and uncomfortable. Women with larger breasts will often complain of back ache, chest pains, shoulder pain and may even walk or stand with a stooped posture. The weight of the breast can also cause other issues like indents where the strap of the bra cuts into the skin causing damage and leaving behind marks which can occasionally lead to scars.
Excessively large breasts can also cause chafing or the development of fungal infection in particular in the crease where the breast meets the chest. It is particularly important for women with large breasts to keep this area clean and dry where reasonably possible. As we age, the skin will also begin to lose collagen and elastin and the breasts will likely begin to droop, which can also cause the appearance of stretch marks.
Beyond the medical implications and discomfort caused by large breasts, many women also feel self conscious and may seek to conceal the size of the breast with oversized clothing so as not to draw attention to the chest area.
If large breasts are causing you discomfort, embarrassment or even pain, here at REAL we can successfully remove excess breast tissue whilst lifting the breast if necessary to give you a more comfortable life, free of breast associated pain.
