EXCESSIVE SWEATING

Excessive sweating is a common condition that typically occurs in areas of the body where there is a high concentration of sweat glands, namely the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet, the armpits and the groin.

Excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) can affect post-pubescent people of any age and is referred to when usual anti-perspirants are ineffective at controlling sweat levels.

An often embarrassing condition, excessive sweating can present as damp or wet patches under the arms and be felt when shaking hands. The visibility of this condition is what makes this particular concern one that can cause anxiety, which in turn can further stimulate the sweat glands causing the issue to be more severe. Whilst there are several over the counter anti-perspirants that can help to combat hyperhidrosis, these are often applied at night and can leave the area sore, itchy and inflamed.

Hyperhidrosis can be idiopathic (without cause) or can be brought on by stressful situations, anxiety, change in temperature and in the summer months as the weather is warmer. However, by using Botulinum Toxin injections to treat the area, the result can be long lasting and leave you with soft, dry skin regardless of environmental stimulants. Botulinum Toxin is injected to affected area which blocks the signals from the nerves to glands that then prevents the sweat from being expelled by the body. A typical dose of Botulinum Toxin for excessive sweating can last between 3-6 months without causing any inflammation or unwanted side effects.
